Health educators and Positive Speakers (an HIV positive individual) are paired together for an unforgettable presentation, wherein the health educators teach about how HIV is transmitted and how to stop new infections. Our speakers connect with the students on an emotional level, helping to get their message across in a way that informs, inspires, enlightens and reduces the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS.
Youth are at very high risk for contracting HIV. One in four of new HIV infections are individuals between the ages of 13 to 24. About one third of high schools students are sexually active. About half of them do not use condoms, and only 13% of them have been tested for HIV. A integral component of the Speakers Bureau is encouragement to visit Face to Face and to get tested.
The Speakers’ Bureau is made possible in part to a grant from Sonoma Wine Country Weekend. Face to Face presents the program to students in Santa Rosa, thanks in part to support from the Ernest L. and Ruth W. Finley Foundation.
