My work has evolved into trusting the wood firing will transform my clay work into surfaces and forms that reflect the movement of fire, and producing a variety of clay maturity in every firing. Pieces are stacked on top of one another challenging the fire to travel in a variety of directions much like traveling through a maze to reach the exit point. In the firing the exit point is the chimney. I try to trick the fire to travel into various areas it cannot easily pass thus making it leave some wood ash on the clay surface and to produce a natural color blend with the clay materials. Hot and cool areas exist in every firing; helping the clay shapes reflect them by twisting and shrinking thus producing a natural harmony and contrast.
