I love the human form and poetry.
When I am painting I am incorporating senses other than the visual--- sounds, music, nature, smells, touch, the world that we humans inhabit and what it is like to encounter that world. I look for poetry and mystery, the contrast of the ordinary and the profound.
I use a variety of tools to make marks that suggest a mood or movement--brushes, scrapers, knives, squeegees, rollers. People often say my paintings are in motion and I experience the world like that. Nothing is static, everything is changing.
Silence and unexplained areas are important in my finished paintings, in the hope that viewers can enter the work with their own histories and find their own stories.
