Bevel up or bevel down? Does the direction of your injection matter? Let’s talk about it!

The slanted tip at the end of a needle is called the bevel. This slant makes it easier to break through skin. How the bevel is held during injection can reduce the risk of harm.

To reduce risk, remember: bevel down to draw, bevel up to use. This reduces the risk of tissue and vein damage, increases injection accuracy, and may reduce injection pain.
