Today for fentanyl awareness day, we’re talking how to use a fentanyl test strip.
Fentanyl test strips test substances for fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid. Knowing if fentanyl is present in a tested sample can reduce the risk of opioid overdose. Fentanyl test strips can be used to test urine, powders, pills, injectables, and residue.
Supplies Needed:
- Fentanyl Test Strip
- Water
- Substance to be Tested
- Container
If not a liquid or powder, crushing the substance to be tested will help it dissolve.
- Add water to the container. 5mL will work for most substances
- Add substance to be tested and mix to dissolve. 5-10mg, or about ½ a grain of rice
- Dip the wavy end of the test strip in the mixture. Hold it there for 15 seconds
- Take out the test strip and wait 2-5 minutes for results
A positive result will show a single line further away from the wavy end, a negative result will show two lines, and an invalid result will show a single line closer to the wavy end—if this happens, a new test strip should be used.
Fentanyl test strips DO NOT measure how much fentanyl is in a substance. They only detect its presence in the tested sample.
