Bonnie Boren painted her first oil painting in the 4th grade. Since that painting in 1954, I have not stopped making art. Styles and medium changed over the years. Each painting is a study in composition. I use color, line and texture to construct the planes of the piece and gestures to give the piece its momentum. I rarely begin a work with an idea in mind. I start with either a defining line or by laying down a color. I work the composition by responding to each new line, shape or color until I can view the piece without any one aspect distracting my attention from the whole work. I am a painter, printmaker and often mix the medium.
