March 20th is National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Today, we want to recognize the resilience of Indigenous communities while also acknowledging the injustices that contribute to health disparities—including the disproportionate impact of HIV.
HIV awareness and access to stigma-free testing services is vital for indigenous communities. As many as 34% of native people living with HIV are unaware of their status. Factors like stigma, racism, cultural barriers, and lack of healthcare infrastructure in rural, isolated, or reservation communities impact the accessibility of prevention and treatment.
At Face to Face, we know that barriers to care can put people’s individual health and the health of the community at continued risk. That’s why we offer HIV testing for free! This testing is confidential, anonymous, and available in both Spanish and English—results in 20 minutes, no appointment necessary.
