This image was taken on a photography adventure in Santa Fe New Mexico some years ago. Shooting in the Plaza Blanco Sentries, and Chama River Valley, my group and I meet up with some locals in the village of Abiquiú. Its notable former resident, artist Georgia O'Keefe's museum house is one of the main attractions. For some also the mysterious moradas of the Los Penitentes brotherhood, of which we met claimed active members. Understandably private, we were invited to photograph only parts of the ranch of one of the members. I came across this shed and was immediately struck by the textures. The layers, the boarded up windows, the depth of rutted and marred wood worn by time, tell its own unique story, which we will never be privy to. Perhaps a visual connection of the secrecy and obscurity surrounding the unorthodox religious brotherhood.
