Safer Injection Guide

🟢 Safer sites
Arms: between the shoulder and wrist is the safest place to inject
Back of the hand: veins in this area are fragile, inject slowly and allow healing time

🟡 Try to avoid these sites
Legs: inject into the lower legs before the upper, blood clot risk
Feet: veins here are fragile, inject slowly and allow healing time
Breasts: blood clot risk

🔴 Dangerous sites
Neck: higher risk of hitting a large artery, do not inject deep
Face: high risk of health complications
Wrist: higher risk of health complications and pain from the density of nerves, veins, and arteries
Groin: higher risk of hitting a large artery, seek medical attention if bruising occurs
Genitals: veins are difficult to see, higher risk of infection and vein damage
Rotate sites, when possible, to maintain the health of your veins.

PWUD still care about their health, and barriers to care and information only make caring for health harder. At Face to Face, we believe that everyone should have an opportunity to achieve their highest level of health. This means reducing barriers to accessing information, supplies, and community.
